Today I came across a very valuable post by Madalena Morbey. I see a lot of truth in both – her observations and her approach.
Maybe you find your own journey reflected by the following text and maybe you can take something away from it for your own inner work:
»Sometimes the line between a spiritual awakening and spiritual psychosis is very thin. We love to romanticize higher consciousness, but what about when that consciousness breaks our sense of self so wide open that it takes us to the edge of madness?
Sometimes what we call a spiritual awakening can be caused by/result in unprocessed trauma, energetic overload and ungrounded awareness colliding inside a body with too little capacity to hold it all.
This is how spiritual psychosis happens: Too much expansion, too fast, with no roots in the body to be able to hold it. The ego collapses, but the nervous system has no safe container to process the fragments of our psyche. It feels like enlightenment, until it feels like losing your mind.
This can result in:
- Racing thoughts and downloads you can't switch off
- Obsessive meaning-making of all signs and synchronicities
- Feeling like you're special or chosen to a dangerous extreme
- Isolation from reality
- Disconnection from your body, family, community, daily life
This is not just awakening. This can easily become spiritual psychosis.
Your soul wants freedom. Your mind wants to understand. Your body wants safety. They must all be balanced and working together in harmony, or awakening can turn into spiritual psychosis.
A regulated nervous system is what makes awakening sustainable. Your mind cannot hold what your body cannot tolerate. Your body is not here to be transcended, it's here to be the anchor for your divinity.
The difference between an awakening and a dreakdown is capacity. It's NOT how much light you see, have or feel. It's how deeply your system can ground that light and awareness into your flesh, breath, emotions and human life.
This is the real work no one talks about. Not chasing more downloads. Not bypassing your humanness. Not floating away from reality. But descending back into your body, so your awakening becomes embodied wisdom, not a prison of overwhelming awareness.
This is why my work is spiritual and somatic. We don't just open your mind. We build the system that can hold your expansion without losing you in it. This is how we heal spiritual psychosis at the root: Through capacity, grounding, presence, integration and embodiment.«
